Sleep Mode Icon
I'm running Win 7 ultimate 64 bit. I would like to create a shortcut on the desktop for "Sleep Mode". Can someone tell me what file I need and where it is located in order to create this shortcut ? Thanks

I found this in the Vista forum which will work for Windows 7 as well, but you need to verify that your machine supports sleep mode
To create a shortcut that will execute the sleep command in Vista:
Right Click in the desired location (On the Desktop or in a folder)
Select New -> Shortcut
In the "Type the location of the item" field enter the following
Rundll32.exe Powrprof.dll,SetSuspendState Sleep
Click Next
This will create a shortcut with the name rundll32,
Right Click the shortcut, select Rename and type in Sleep
You can now open this shortcut whenever you desire to put your computer into sleep mode.
Note:
Right Click the created shortcut, select Properties -> Change Icon
Navigate to this link in the "Look for icons in this file:" field:
%SystemRoot%\system32\SHELL32.dll icons
Find the desired icon.
Click Ok.

Hi, Thanks..This may work in Vista but in Windows 7, 64 bit. It does put the computer to sleep/hibernate but when awakining the computer does a complete reboot. Windows 7 does have a sleep mode next to restart and shutdown..I just want to put a icon on the desktop that does the same..Need the "Sleep" file name and location. TIA

This method worked for me [Win 7 64-bit], minus the "%SystemRoot%\system32\SHELL32.dll icons". I used one of my own icons...
Here's what I put in the "Target" and "Start in" fields:
C:\Windows\System32\rundll32.exe Powrprof.dll,SetSuspendState Sleep
C:\windows\system32
------------------
Edit: It seems that it's actually hibernating rather than going into sleep mode. I found
this, though. Maybe it can help?

Hi. I find this method that worked for mr (Win7 Ultimate 64bit) and, even after so time, I put it here for some others that see this post:
Open a notepad page and copy this:
@echo off
powercfg -h off
rundll32.exe powrprof.dll,SetSuspendState 0,1,0
powercfg -h on
Save as *.bat; create a shortcut to 9with your own icon). That's it!
